Hello Nature Lovers & Mushroom Hunters!

As the days begin to cool and the first signs of autumn creep in, something magical is starting to happen on Thetis Island: the fungi are returning! We're kicking off our Fall Fungi Bio-Blitz Challenge on iNaturalist, and we’d love your help documenting the incredible mushroom (and lichen!) life emerging all around us. From classic toadstools to turkey tails and puffballs, now’s the time to keep your eyes low and your camera ready.

How to Join the Fall Fungi Bio-Blitz Challenge:

1. Create an account at iNaturalist.org or through the free mobile app.

2. Log in and go to our project page: Thetis Island Nature Conservancy Mycology Blitz!

3. Click "Join" at the top of the project page. You must be logged in to join.

4. Start uploading your fungi observations! No need to be connected—take photos and upload them when you’re online.

Be sure to include clear photos and, if possible, note the location and habitat where you found the fungi.

The Fall Fungi Bio-Blitz Challenge runs now through November 1st, and all observations must be made on Thetis Island.

Prizes will be awarded for the most observations, best photos, and coolest fungal finds - winners announced shortly after the challenge ends!

Every observation helps build our understanding of local biodiversity and contributes to real ecological research. Whether you're spotting slime molds or shelf fungi, your findings matter.
