Fairyslipper Forest Nature Reserve Protected!

ThINC is thrilled to let you know that the purchase of Lot 1, Burchell Hill has completed, protecting 41 acres of imperiled Douglas-fir/Arbutus forest known as Fairyslipper Forest, named for the beautiful Fairyslipper Orchid (Calypso bulbosa) which blooms there in the spring.

Thanks to over 140 Thetis Islanders, along with our conservation and funding partners the Cowichan Community Land Trust, the Islands Trust Fund, the Sitka Foundation, the Gosling Foundation and the BC Ministry of Transport, the Fairyslipper Forest Nature Reserve is be a reality. Read the press release  issued by the Islands Trust Fund on January 25, 2018.  We're working on the covenant, management plan and a nature trail through the reserve. Stay tuned!

Thank you everyone!
